Have we gone so politically correct that we are not willing to dunk terrorists for information that could and has saved countless American lives? The "controversy" over water boarding has surpassed any actual grip on reality. There are articles written, bills being written, comment after comment being made by folks that don’t even actually know what water boarding is.
First off, what is water boarding? It is imprisoning someone on a board, tilting the head down at a 15 degree (or so) angle, covering the subject's face with either a light cloth or plastic and pouring water on their face. This procedure was specifically designed to cause the subject’s survival instincts to over-ride their conscious mind and create panic, the panic that anyone would suffer if they were drowning.
The big problem here is that the subject is NOT drowning. The subject is not suffering any physical harm at all. This technique is psychological only. Equate it to the time you were small and the school bully held you underwater longer than you thought you could hold your breath (that would be "dunking"). The panic that set in, as you thrashed about trying to reach the surface, is similar to what the subjects go through. Was the dunking a terrifying experience? Yes. Were you permanently mentally scarred from this event? Not likely.
How has our country ended up so soft and afraid of its own power that we have a large number of people who feel that any harsh handling of the psychotic killers, who would love nothing more than to see all Americans dead, is considered torture and our "Evil" government has no right to use such tactics to protect its citizens. However we have gotten here, we need to leave this place and fast.
Ask any terror or Middle Eastern expert and they will tell you, we are at war. This is not a war we can "pull out" of. It has already followed us home. We can not placate these people. The Israelis tried by giving back south Lebanon. What did they get for their troubles? Missile attacks from that land they returned, within hours of the land being returned. Israel has tried many times to reach an accord with their neighbors. For their efforts they received THOUSANDS of missiles launched into their country every year. Non-stop.
Understand folks this war has two sides. The righteous Islamic terrorists, who will stop at nothing to do us harm on one side. And a country that is afraid of offending these same people by treating them as anything less than guests of the State.
Please do not get me wrong. We can not stoop to their level. But do we have to handcuff ourselves with ridiculous accusations of "evil" doings towards our enemies? Evil actions such as flushing a Koran down the toilet (a physically impossible act). Evil actions such as causing these prisoners discomfort by playing loud music that they don’t like (sounds like an old neighbor of mine). Evil actions such as "dunking" subjects in such a way as to cause them to panic, without causing them any actual harm.
These “horrible” acts are placed in the same category as cutting off body parts, rape, dunking live people in acid, gouging out eyes and other such actual tortures inflicted by these same prisoners. Actions that could only be imagined by the directors of horror movies. These are the people we do not want to "feel bad".
I hope this country realizes that we are still involved in stopping the Muslim attacks upon Western Society. This is not a new battle. What do you all think the Crusades were about? Like it or not, most of Islam has not embraced the enlightenment that the rest of the world has accepted. For those of you old enough, do you remember how shocked America was when we found out that the Japanese were using suicide techniques against us? We were horrified.
The majority of the world has held human life in the highest regard for centuries now. However, Middle-Eastern Muslims do not. We are not going to win this conflict with compassion and understanding. Our enemies consider compassion a weakness. Any sign of compassion and mercy only emboldens them.
If we are to come out on top, we need to understand that our country is the greatest country in history. Is this just egotistic boasting? No. Remember that our country not only spends millions, even billions, in benevolent aid to any and all countries of the world, friend or foe. Add to that the one distinction that America has that has never been matched. In the history of the human race, there have been many "super powers", nations that dominated the planet. Rome, Persia, and Britain to name a few. However; we are the only "superpower" in history to NOT be an expansionist nation. And please don’t bring up early American history as we were not a superpower back then.
Well folks in the crude vernacular, grow a pair and join the fight or convert to fundamentalist Islam before it is too late.
